Alan Turing
June 23rd, 1912 - June 7th, 1954
One of the first thoeretical computer scientists and a pioneer in artificial intelligence.
Turing may be more well known than the other stories shared on this site, but his story is impactful. Turing was a cryptanalyst during the second world war who helped intercept Nazi messages through codebreaking. He also helped develop encrypted communication systems. When the war ended, Turing went on to research and publish papers on mathematical biology. Despite aiding the war efforts, he was still prosecuted and ultimately killed by the British government on the basis of his sexuality.
